LAHORE - A contempt of Court petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court against the Federal Government, the president, the prime minister, ex-president Pervez Mush-arraf and others on Dr Aafia Siddiqui case who has been convicted and sentenced to 86 years jail by a New York, USA, Court on seven charges including attack on US marines. The petition has been filed by Rizvanul Almurtaza thro-ugh Barrister Iqbal Jafree under articles 204, 194, 2(A), 190, 187 of the Constitution read with section 561 Cr PC which inter alia alleges that respondents intentionally put up a weak defence through inexperienced counsel for Dr Aafia. The petitioner is also aggrieved that despite order by this court, the case of Dr Aafia and for her release was not moved to the International Court of Justice where her case merit hearing and relief was readily available under the international law. But the respondents avoided it by way of not writing to the ICJ. The petitioner alleged that the respondents intentionally hired counsel of low profile in order to mint money through commission who failed to put up adequate defence for Aafia. He further argued that the ICJ was not moved as no monetary benefit was therein for them. The petitioner has also enlisted Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, the sister of Dr Aafia, as proforma respondent to seek her affidavit as to what she knew about Dr Aafia during the period between 2003 (when she was abducted allegedly from Karachi with three kids) to 2008 (when her presence was detected in an Afghanistan jail) and that what the kids of the convicted doctors told her about that period. The case would come before the Bench of Justice Ch Iftikhar Hussain on Wednesday (today)
