ISLAMABAD Chief of General Staff (CJS) Lieutenant General Khalid Shamim Wyne has been promoted to four-star General and appointed as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC). He would replace the outgoing CJCSC Gen Tariq Majid who is going to retire on October 8. TheNation has reliably learnt that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has approved the new appointment and a notification to this effect has been issued by the Presidency. Sources informed that this decision was taken in the troika meeting on Monday. Khalid Shamim Wyne has been working as Chief of General Staff and he has the best professional insight into the current state of regional security because of the war on terror and new challenges on the eastern border of Pakistan. He has been very instrumental in executing the recent large-scale military exercises with special focus on challenges relating to Pakistans national security and the most adequate response strategy that has been the cornerstone of the Azm-e-Nau. The post of CJCSC was created by late Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in 1976, which turned out to be very crucial as the appointee also holds the responsibility to look after countrys nuclear assets.
