PUNE (India) The International Cricket Council (ICC) is seriously considering to scrap off the Champions Trophy, it was learnt here on Tuesday. According to a Dubai-based source, the decision may be taken soon. If the Test Championship which is under pipeline gets green signal, we may scrap off the Champions Trophy, a high ranking ICC official said. It was originally inaugurated as the ICC Knock Out tournament in 1998 and has been played every two years since. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has been awarded the right to host the Champions trophy in 2013. However, if the World Test Championship starts in 2013, the decision to scrap the Champions Trophy may be taken shortly, the source further added. It may be noted here that the then ICC President David Morgan had termed the last edition of the event held in South Africa a huge success and had praised the efforts of a large number of people who made it possible. Due to the World Cup in 2011, there will be no Champions Trophy next year.
