LAHORE - The Lahore High Court Tuesday suspended operation of the notification earlier issued by the Punjab Government to stall transfer of a piece of land earlier allotted to film and theatre star Umer Sharif and issued notice to the Board of Revenue for next week. Mr Sharif has moved the court grieving that the sitting government had allegedly cancelled the allotment of land which the previous government had allowed in his favour for setting up a theatre in order to promote art and cultural in the City. He pleaded that he had vast experience in the field of art and culture and would like to share it with countrymen for their entertainment, so that they might be able to have a link with their culture. The petitioner further said that previous government had allotted a piece of land to him but the present government notified its cancellation and likelihood cannot be ruled out the same may be transferred to someone else. The court after preliminary hearing the matter, suspended operation of the notification in question and issued notice to the BoR.
