Massive rally condemns US verdict against Aafia

KARACHI Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Tuesday staged a massive rally in the metropolis against the 86-year long sentence handed down to Dr Aafia Siddiqui by a US Court and demanded of the Obama administration to immediately nullify the court verdict and to release her. In a telephone address to hundreds and thousands of participants simultaneously on MA Jinnah Road and other cities from London, MQM Quaid Altaf Hussain said that peace could not be established in the world by use of force, urging the US to honorably free the detained Pakistani scientist. The venue of the rally was the vast expanse of MA Jinnah Road from the Square of the Quaids Mausoleum to the Tibet Centre pedestrian bridge, jampacked by people who had come from all parts of the city to condemn the 86 years long sentence of Dr Aafia Siddiqui awarded by US Court. He demanded of the President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Gillani to use all the possible diplomatic measures for the immediate release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui and urged the US government to nullify the unjust Court verdict. He said that the courage displayed by Dr Aafia Siddiqui during her trial made the entire nation proud. He said this huge rally is the voice of Pakistani nation. He asked the US government to explain as for what crime Dr Aafia was jailed for 86 years and urged the United States and European countries to change their policies for the peace of the world. Referring to the US drones attack in Pakistani areas, he asked the US government who was responsible of the killing of innocent people in these drones attack. He further asked who was the responsible for the killing of millions in Iraq. The MQM chief urged the US administration, European Union, United Nations and Human Rights champions to take notice of Dr Aafias sentence. The Obama Administration should retract the case and immediately release her because the entire nation rejects her sentencing and sympathise with her family, he added. Terming Aafias sentence deplorable, he said that more than 90 per cent people of the world were against the US policies including the peace loving people of United States. He suggested to the US policy making institutions that peace could not be restored in the world by force saying that the restoration of peace is only possible through acknowledgement of others dignity and sovereignty. The MQM, he said, was spreading fast in the country and its government will turn Pakistan into a respectable and sovereign country. He appealed to the people of Karachi to play their role for the lasting peace of Karachi and urged the people from all walks of life to respect all the communities. Altaf paid rich tribute to MQM slain leader Dr Imran Farooq and declared him Shaheed-e-Inqilab (revolution). Meanwhile, MQM Rabita Committee deputy Convenor Dr Farooq Sattar, Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, Allama Asad Deobandi, Allama Ali Karar Naqvi, Allama Amir Abdullah and Aftab Qadri also spoke the rally.
