ISLAMABAD After the failure to reach consensus on some common candidate to be made Chairman National Accountability Bureau, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has invited Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, Ch Nisar Ali Khan, for a meeting on the subject so that the matter could be resolved with mutual consultation. Sources aware of the development on this front informed TheNation that the Government was under tremendous pressure from the Supreme Court of Pakistan for early filling of the vacant slot of Chairman NAB and as the process of appointment of the Chairman requires meaningful consultation of the Prime Minister with the Leader of Opposition, so PM Gilani had invited Ch Nisar to evolve consensus on some common candidate. Earlier PM Gilani had proposed two names for the slot one after the other but both the names were rejected by Nisar on the plea that both the retired judges remained affiliated with Pakistan Peoples Party after their retirement from the service and one of these two candidates had even contested election on the PPP ticket in the past. Sources in Government informed that in the absence of the Chairman, NAB was virtually become dysfunctional as the slot of prosecutor general was also vacant and it would remain vacant till the time of the appointment of Chairman whose consent would be mandatory for his appointment. Sources further said that Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) wanted appointment of some apolitical and non-partisan person on the slot and both the names proposed by the PPP leadership were controversial and having political background. Sources in the Government informed that they wanted appointment of Chairman NAB at the earliest as Supreme Courts directions in this connection were quite clear and now PPP was left with little choice but to sit with the Leader of Opposition to reach consensus on some person acceptable to both the parties. The sources further said that the Government had conveyed to the Leader of Opposition to come up with a few names for the slot in his upcoming meeting with Prime Minister Gilani while PPP side would also toss a few and then both the sides would try to evolve consensus on some common candidate to be made Chairman NAB.
