PML-N to discuss Balochistan issue tomorrow

LAHORE – Alarmed by the constantly deteriorating law and situation in Balochistan, the PML-N is meeting on Sunday (tomorrow) with party leaders from the province also invited.
PML-N sources say the Baloch leaders of the party will apprise the meeting of the current situation in the province, in the light of which the PML-N will take decisions that may also include mobilising all opposition political parties on a single platform and working out a viable means to address the issue.
The sources further say the party leadership strongly believes in emergence of true representatives of Balochs through the election process. “As such, the main agenda of the meeting will be to ensure timely general elections in the country,” they maintained. The PML-N had announced to hold a conference on Balochistan about two months ago and the meeting may also give green signal in this regard.
The PML-N is giving a serious thought to the Balochistan situation. Besides holding meeting with Baloch nationalist leaders, the party is obtaining firsthand information from its office-bearers and leaders in the province.
PML-N leaders recently met with senior leader and PakhtunKhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) head Mahmood Khan Achakzai and former Balochistan Chief Minister Sardar Akhtar Mengal. They are also due next week to meet with Talal Bugti of the Jamhoori Watan Party, Hasil Bizenjo and even Mir Zafarullah Jamali for the sake of bringing them on a single platform.
Sources say the meeting may also decide about the visit of PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to Balochistan so that he could interact with different segments of the society and listen to their grievances.
Talking to TheNation, PML-N Central Secretary Information Mushahiddullah Khan confirmed the party meeting on Balochistan. “Our party is alive to the situation and supports end to oppression of Balochs, protection of their rights and taking steps to improve their condition,” he held.
Mushahiddullah said the PML-N was the only party speaking for the Balochs. “The party has not only formed committees to keep abreast with the situation but also the president has himself been visiting the province,” he added. The PML-N central secretary also supportied the Supreme Court’s directions for ending the role of agencies in the province.
