The district government yesterday launched ‘special surveillance’ to check the breeding of dengue.
The administration has constituted special teams to carry out inspection of graveyards, schools, under construction buildings and parks and launch fumigation in the town.
The campaign has been initiated keeping in view the fear of a likely outbreak of dengue fever.
The teams will be consisted of representatives from Parks and Horticulture Authority, Roads Department, Health, Towns and Solid Waste Management Company, who will visit every nook and corner of the town and kill the larva of the killer mosquito.
Meanwhile, chairing a meeting held to review arrangements for dengue prevention, the DCO Zahid Saleem Gondal directed the concerned officials to release larva eating fish in all ponds and fountains of the city. He asked the heads of all government departments to adopt precautionary measures for dengue prevention and submit clearance certificates otherwise strict departmental action would be taken against them.
The DCO disclosed that 26 patients were brought to Nishtar Hospital with the symptoms of dengue fever but their medical tests confirmed that none of them was infected with dengue. He said that the citizens needed to adopt precautionary measures instead of getting frightened from dengue. The DCO asked the town officials to prepare a list of all tyre shops and ask the traders to keep their items under shelter. He issued order for launching of a crackdown on all milk houses and directed the officials of environment department to take action for their shifting out of city area.
He declared that cases would be registered under terrorism act against those creating encroachments in the town. “Keeping in view security concerns, the encroachers will be booked under terrorism act so that no saboteur can hide behind the encroachments,” he added.
