Rawalpindi - It seems the Rawalpindi police have failed in providing justice to victims of heinous crimes as a poor citizen, whose brother-in-law was allegedly shot dead in Rawat, approached Inspector General of Punjab Police Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera at his Lahore office for justice.
He accused police high-ups of Saddar Circle, including investigation officer (IO) Sub-Inspector Saeed Kiyani, of taking hefty bribe from the murder accused and turning the case into a suicide incident.
The IGP taking action ordered City Police Officer Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi to change investigation into the murder case and appoint some honest and experienced officer to probe the matter.
Following the instructions, the CPO assigned the task to the SP (investigations), reliable sources disclosed to The Nation yesterday.
Talking to The Nation, CPO Abbasi confirmed the development saying he had appointed the SP (investigation) to reinvestigate the murder case and fix the murderers. “A fair and impartial investigation will be held in the case,” he said. “I don’t think so that any police officer can take bribe in any murder case to save the skin of killers,” replied CPO in response to a query.
DSP Saddar Circle and SHO PS Rawat Malik Asif Nawaz, while chatting to this scribe, also denied the allegations that they had received bribe from the murder accused to destroy the evidence. They said the investigation has been changed in the murder case and now the new officer would solve the case.
Earlier according to sources, a citizen named as Ghulam Muhammad, a resident of Morgah area, appeared before IGP Sukhera in Lahore office and tabled an application –- a copy of which is also available with The Nation — stated that his brother-in-law Saeed Ahmed had been working as cashier on a petrol pump for the last 16 years and the owner of pump along with other accomplices allegedly shot him dead on 5/11/2014.
A murder case number 400 under section 302/34 was registered with Rawat police, he said, but later police launched faulty investigation in the case and twisted the facts after receiving bribe from the killers and portrayed the murder case as suicide. He added that the police investigators including SP and DSP Saddar Circle misbehaved with him so many times in their offices.
He accused SI Saeed Kiyani of destroying the substantial evidence of the murder case to provide relief to the killers. Ghulam requested the IGP to change the investigation team and provide him with justice, besides seeking stern action against officers of Saddar Circle, sources said.
