SC suspends tribunal verdict, reinstates PML-N candidate

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court today suspended the August 26 decision of an election tribunal to de-seat PML-N candidate Siddique Khan Baloch and the tribunal's order of re-election in the NA-154 constituency. An election tribunal probing rigging allegations had announced its verdict in favour of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Jahangir Tareen and ordered re-elections.

The three-judge bench, headed by Justice Saqib Nisar issued the verdict on the petition filed by Siddique Baloch. Baloch was also disqualified for possessing bogus educational qualification. The court now issued a stay order against implementation of election tribunal's decision regarding NA-154 and subsequently ordered reinstatement of Baloch's NA membership.
