Rawalpindi - For young people like university students, cultural and sports activities are vital part of their academic life at educational institutions.

In this regard an event on Manto was organised by COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), department of humanities. Recently a tribute has been paid to the legend by Sarmad Sultan Khoosat, in the form of a very intense film called “Manto”- a comprehensive life history of the late author and the psychological and social struggles, which marked his life.

The department of humanities invited the director and actor Sarmad Khoosat, Sania Saeed, and their team for a talk on the subject and to share their journey of three years in the making of the film. Saadat Hasan Manto was a legendary Pakistani short story writer of Urdu language. He was a film and radio scriptwriter as well as a journalist. Saadat Hasan Manto was a prolific writer who chronicled social issues and disturbing realities of those times. He was considered one of the most controversial yet very influential writers of his time.

The chief guests addressed the gathering and gave detailed overview of the project and took time to answer questions raised by the excited students. The team also played the movie clip.

Rector CIIT Dr SM Junaid Zaidi told the students that “Life at CIIT is not all about academics and study alone. We know that students need a break from their tough routine and study schedules. There are many clubs and societies that are open to membership for all students to arrange co-curricular and literary actives at all campuses of CIIT.”

In the end Syed Saim, a student of CIIT, presented a beautiful recitation of his own poem dedicated to Manto which was applauded generously by the gathering.
