LAHORE - The Pakistan Sunni Tehrik has announced support to the PML-N candidate Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the October 11 by-election in NA-122, Lahore.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq addressing a press conference here thanked the Tehrik for unconditionally supporting him in the election against the PTI candidate Aleem Khan.

The PTI Chairman Imran Khan has announced to address public rallies to carry out campaign of Aleem in the Constituency and Sardar Ayaz commented on it that Imran Khan’s campaign for his candidate is like supporting a sinking ship. He said Khan has already been beaten by him in the last elections as such his drive for Aleem will be of no use.

Ayaz has appreciated the Election Commission decision to conduct the by-polls on October 11 under the supervision of Army and Rangers and said it would be beneficial for them.

To a question on the arrest of target killers in Karachi, Sardar Ayaz said they must be apprehended regardless of the consideration which party they belong to. Action should also be taken against the target killers if they are found in the PML-N, he said adding, the government is quite strict on anti-terror policy on which it neither showed any laxity in the past and will not do so in future.

He said it was PML-N government taking the Karachi operation to its logical end and its results are before everyone. To a question Sadiq clarified that not undertaking of giving up operation against the Tehrik has been given in lieu of its support.

Lahore Division President of Sunni Tehrik Maulana Mujahid Rasul denied existence of any terrorist element in the ranks and files of his party and offered to carry out operation if anyone feels their presence. He said the people being apprehended in Karachi do not belong to his party but of another political party which was making hue and cry over the action.

PTI plea dismissed: Justice Ijazul Ahsan of the Lahore High Court yesterday dismissed the petition of PTI against the use of government machinery for by-elections, holding that the petitioner should approach the relevant forum.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek filed a petition in the Lahore High Court and submitted that the government’s machinery is being used in the constituencies where the by-elections are due and the code of conduct of the Election Commission of Pakistan is openly being violated.

The petitioner-party argued that the voters are being harassed by the police and development schemes have also been started in various constituencies. It is the clear violation of the code of conduct of the ECP, he submitted.

The petitioner prayed the court to stop the use of government’s machinery and take action against those officials who are using the machinery to support the candidates of the ruling party.
