SWINE flu has turned out to be much more lethal for the humans than bird flu. So far, 159 people have lost their lives in Mexico, from where it supposedly originated. It is comforting to know, however, that the treatment works if the patient gets quick medical attention, and out of the 2500 affected by the virus, only 1311 remain hospitalised. Thanks to growing international travel, the flu first spread to the next-door US and Canada, and is now reported to have arrived in Europe. Therefore, the Pakistan authorities have done well to take the situation seriously and put the people and concerned officials on the alert. Swine flu is a communicable disease. While Pakistan does not have any pig farms, there is no dearth of international commuters who keep coming in and going out of the country. Their proper check-up should help ward off the scary disease.
