The district administration has formed a five-member special committee to launch crackdown on manufacturers and dealers of counterfeit drugs.

The committee is consisted of representatives from district administration, police and health department. Meanwhile, chairing a meeting of Drug Quality Control Board here on Wednesday, DCO Multan Zahid Saleem Gondal said that strict action would be taken against concerned drug inspector, if fake medicines or injections were found at any pharmacy in his area. He added that the criminals playing with human lives deserved strict action. He said that thee pharmaceutical companies had also been contacted by the government and they were asked to improve their standards.

The DCO disclosed that funds had been released for supply of medicines to the basic health units. He added that besides medicine supply, the government had also issued instructions for the recruitment of doctors and paramedical staff for these units. He said that the shortage of medical staff at all hospitals would be removed and all facilities at emergency wards ensured. He disclosed that vaccine and hepatitis diagnosis kits worth millions had been supplied to the health facilities in Shujabad and adjoining areas which produced very positive results.
