Cop among 5 held, two ex-spies among 3 at large: RPO

Rawalpindi - Police have arrested five persons, including a serving sub-inspector of Punjab police, on account of kidnapping a passenger carrying Rs 70.25 million from Benazir Bhutto International Airport on April 22.
Police also recovered Rs 30.86 million and three vehicles, which were used in the crime, while three other robbers including two retired officers of an intelligence agency are still at large, disclosed Regional Police Officer Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja at a press briefing on Wednesday.
The RPO said that three persons impersonating officials of law-enforcement and intelligence agencies kidnapped a servant of Galaxy Money Exchange Karachi from the airport and threw him outside the vehicle at Taramri Chowk after snatching Rs 70.25 million.
After relentless efforts, a police team headed by CPO managed to arrest five members of the gang and recover Rs 30.86 and three vehicles from their possession.
“I have written to interior ministry to put the names of two retired officers of an intelligence agency on Exit Control List (ECL),” he said, adding that police would also follow the procedure to arrest another accused namely Javed Iqbal who is staying in Dubai. “We will get red-warrants to arrest Javed who provided assistance to the gang,” he said.
Those who were arrested including Zaka Ullah, Ishfaq Malhi, Ilyas, Rashid and SI Saeed Ahmed, he said. Soon the other culprits would also be behind the bars, the RPO said.
