KARACHI - A fire brigade official was shot dead in an act of target killing near Old Sabzi Mandi within the limits of PIB Colony police station.  

Ghulam Fareed who was also affiliated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead when he was returning home located at Fire Brigade quarters in Landhi after visiting the Civic Centre.

DSP Nasir Lodhi said that the deceased was grade 17 officer at the Fire Brigade department and was associated with the department as chief fire officer at Landhi Fire Station, adding that he had also been associated with the local Urdu newspaper in the past. The officer further said that at least two armed men riding a motorcycle shot and killed him over unexplained reasons. He was shot multiple times and died at the spot. His body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy and later handed over to his family. No case has been registered while further investigation was underway.

(INP): Senior House Officer (SHO) Jarwar Muhammad Hassan was killed and two other police officers sustained injuries when dacoits attacked the armored car of police by rocket launcher during an encounter her on Wednesday,

According to police officials, a search operation was initiated by the security agencies some 15 days back to nab the most wanted bandit Sultan aka Saltu and Chotu Bukhrani.

During the operation, the suspects targeted police vehicle by a rocket launcher killing SHO whereas two officers got severely injured.

The injured were shifted to the Obaro Hospital for medicinal aid.

After the incident heavy contingent of police personnel reached the spot and cordoned off the entire area.

Key 'suspect' in Sabeen Mahmud's murder arrested

(NNI): The law enforcement agencies (LEAs) on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a key suspect in connection to murder of human rights activist Sabeen Mahmud.

According to a private television channel, the suspect was arrested during the LEAs raid in Gizri area.

The law enforcement agencies have conducted similar raids today in Defence and Clifton areas and rounded up some other suspects. The key suspect has been moved to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

Gunmen on a motorcycle attacked activist Sabeen Mahmud late last Friday in Karachi, as she was leaving her cafe, where she held art exhibitions and talks. She had just hosted a discussion on disappearances in Baluchistan.

Police say their only witness is Mahmud's mother, who was with her and was wounded. Investigators suspect the killers had a back-up team of two men on a motorcycle and police are poring over CCTV footage.

Rangers arrest 20 suspects from Thatta

(NNI): Rangers conducted a search operation at Dhabeji area of Thatta and arrested as many as twenty suspected persons on Wednesday.

According to reports, the Rangers arrested the suspects from Bilal Nagar, Zain Colony, Ghareebabad Market and other localities of Dhabeji. They also recovered several weapons and bullets from the suspects' custody.

The Rangers told media that the operation has been expanded to other cities of Sindh, intending to make the province free from crimes and criminals.
