LAHORE - Sri Lanka A defeated Pakistan A by seven runs under D/L method in the second unofficial ODI of the Pakistan A tour of Sri Lanka played at Hambantota.
According to information made available here on Wednesday, Pakistan A won the toss and opted to bat first. The decision didn’t prove very beneficial for the green caps as Sri Lankans slammed 265 runs on the board for the loss of nine wickets in 50 overs. Sri Lanka took a good start and added 57 runs for the first-wicket partnership. Tabish Khan took first wicket for Pakistan when he sent S Jayasuria to the pavilion when he was playing at 21. Sri Lanka continued batting well and brought their total to 134 for with the help of second-wicket partnership but Zafar Gohar provided another breakthrough to his team when he took wicket of Gunathilaka at his individual score of 33. Key player of Sri Lanka K Perera played superb knock of 110 runs and was clean bowled by Tabish. After the dismissal of Perera, no Sri Lankan player could play a big innings and lost their wickets adding a few runs in their team’s total. When the last ball was bowled, Sri Lankan score was 265-9. For Pakistan A, Tabish Khan and Ziaul Haq clinched three wickets each while Mir Hamza took two and Zafar Gohar got one.
After completion of Sri Lanka innings, rain interrupted the match and it was reduced to 40 overs under the D/L method. Opener Mukhtar Ahmad and Israrullah provided Pakistan 49-run start as in the second last ball of the sixth over Chameera sent Mukhtar to the pavilion who was playing at 20. After two overs, another opener Israrullah too lost his wicket on the ball of Chameera when Pakistan’s total was 54. For the third-wicket Partnership Khurram Manzoor and Fawad Alam added 135 runs and brought their team close to win as they need to score 221 runs to register victory.
But when in 33rd overs lost his wicket at the individual score of 65 and in Khurram Manzoor was sent packing at his score of 69, no Pakistani batsmen could help the team to land it home safely and after the last ball was delivered, Pakistan team could manage to score 213, just eight runs away from the victory. For Sri Lanka, T Kaushal (3-44), D Chameera (2-36) and S Jayasuriya (2-31) bowled well.
