LAHORE - Top 48 national players will feature in the 4th FMC International Men’s Squash Championship 2016 which will stroll into action from May 2 here at the Punjab Squash Complex.

This was announced by FMC Managing Director Farooq Shahid during a press conference held here at the National Hockey Stadium auditorium on Friday. Punjab Squash Association (PSA) President Malik Amjad Noon, Secretary Shiraz Saleem, Vice President Admin Rana Tariq and others were also present on the occasion.

Farooq Shahid said that the FMC had been sponsoring the event for the last four years and this was the fourth edition of the tournament. “We have also sponsored a great number of junior and senior squash events and keen to continue this game which Pakistan had ruled for many decades,” he added.

Revealing about the prize money of the tournament, Farooq Shahid said: “The prize money of this tournament is US Dollars 15,000 which is good enough to attract top local and international squash players. I hope the local players will work hard, excel in the tournament and earn handsome prize money as well as laurels for the country.” PSA President Malik Amjad Noon thanked the FMC for whole-heartedly sponsoring squash and hoped they would continue their generous support in future too for the promotion of the game. “Pakistan has ruled the world of squash for a long period and it is the part of our endevours to provide our players each and every facility to groom them well and help them in regaining the lost squash glory.”

PSA Secretary Shiraz Saleem said that this tournament was approved by Professional Squash Association (PSA) and helped in improving international ranking of the national players.

“The quality of our squash has been improving with each passing day and it is our top priority to not only provide maximum local as well as international events to our players so that they may remain busy in healthy competitions and excel at international level.”

PSA vice president admin Tariq Rana and secretary Shiraz Saleem welcomed the participants of the tournament who reached the city to feature in the qualifying round of the tournament. They also revealed the players’ ranking who were featuring in the tournament. As per PSA rankings, Farhan Zaman is top seed while Tayyab Aslam is second seed, Khawaja Adim Maqbool third, Farhan Mahboob fourth and Asim Khan is fifth seed in the tournament.
