LAHORE : After approval from PIA chairman, the airline will be able to overhaul its A-320 landing gear overhaul facility at PIA engineering base in Karachi.

A member of Society of Aircraft Engineers Pakistan (SAEP) said that up-gradation of engineering base, which is expected to be completed later this year, will lead to a saving of more than $350,000 for each landing gear overhaul. “Earlier we had overhaul facility for A-310, A-300, B-747, B-777, B-737, ATR-42 and ATR-72 aircraft and now PIA will also be able to provide overhaul facilities to other airlines at PIA engineering base,” engineer added.

He said that airline would be even in position to earn revenue by providing same facility to the other regional airlines. For said purpose, airline has purchased some tools and imparted training to its some engineers. The addition of A-320 to this facility will save PIA a substantial amount of money, while generating additional revenue for the airline. It is worth mentioning here that out of 11 A-320 planes added to PIA fleet couple of years back landing gear overhaul of six planes is due in recent future.
