KASUR-Two dacoits were gunned down in a shootout after they killed a security guard and snatched Rs10 million from a weaving and spinning mills here the other night.

The dacoits also shot at and critically injured another security guard while two policemen also got injured in the shootout that took place in village Sara-i-Cheena in the Phoolnagar Saddr Police precincts.

According to Kasur DPO Syed Nasir Ali Rizvi, the other night two dacoits killed a security guard and injured another at a spinning and weaving in Phoolnagar area. The dacoits also snatched Rs10 million, meant for salaries of the workers and fled away. The district police officer informed that as the police received a call on helpline 15, the Phoolnagar Saddr Police rushed to the spot and later started chasing the fleeing dacoits. However, near Sara-i-Cheena area, as the lawmen were about the reach the dacoits, they started indiscriminate firing on the cops, which the policemen retaliated and a shootout ensured. The crossfire continued for quite some time as a result, the two dacoits, said to be a sign of terror in the area, were killed while two cops identified as Mohammad Ramzan and Walayat sustained bullet wounds and were rushed to hospital.

The DPO said that the killed guard was identified as Mohammad Ashraf while identity of the other could not be confirmed yet.

The police claimed that Rs9.3 million, two rifles, a pump action and a pistol were recovered from the dead dacoits whose identity could not be ascertained. The police have launched further investigation.
