A 14-member delegation, comprising of Vice Chancellors and senior educationists from Sri Lankan universities, is scheduled to visit Pakistan on an orientation tour from May 02 to 09, 2019, on the invitation of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
The delegation members paid a courtesy call on High Commissioner of Pakistan, Major General (r) Dr Shahid Ahmad Hashmat at High Commission’s premises on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the High Commissioner said that Pakistan has a great deal to offer to international students, with a rich diversity in its culture, landscapes and people, as well as well-respected educational institutes. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to contribute in enhancing the prospects of Sri Lanka’s youth for better educational opportunities.
The High Commissioner expressed the hope that the visit will open new avenues of collaboration and more in-depth academic and research cooperation between the two countries.
The High Commissioner also spoke about Pakistan-Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Programme in which Pakistan is offering 1000 scholarships to Sri Lankan students in the fields of Medicine, Engineering, Information Technology and Social and Management Sciences.
The delegation members, apart from visiting the educational institutions in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, will also visit the historical Gandhara sites at Taxila. The delegation will also meet high ranking government dignitaries during their stay at Pakistan.
