RAWALPINDI- Residents of Murree and Kotli Sattian agitated against the stoppage of Bulk Water Supply Scheme and requested the Prime Minister and Chief Minister Punjab to intervene into the matter for the welfare of the area, said a press release issued here. A project for provision of water to Murree was initiated in 1998 but could not be started due to military intervention. However, in 2004, the then Punjab government initiated a project titled Bulk Water Supply Scheme to Murree. The cost of project was about 6 billion and completion date was fixed as June 2008. The contract was awarded to M/S Siemens Pakistan. The project was stated after the detailed deliberations of the Punjab government officials and NESPAK and Public Health Engineering Dept after conducting the detailed feasibility and soil tests, the site near village Chaparian at River Jhelum was found suitable for the provision of water to Murree and its surroundings. The company after awarding the contract conducted the detailed survey for construction of road. Damaging the orchards, agricultural lands, and residential houses of private owners of the areas completed 13Km of Katch track/ roads of 72 feet width. People have scarified every thing only for the ultimate benefits of the project. Rs 200m have already been spent on this project. People of the area demanded of the PM and CM Punjab to intervene and ensure completion of this project, which is for the uplift of rural area of Murree and Kotli Sattian.
