SIALKOT - The work is briskly underway to beautify various main roads in Sialkot, as floral saplings have been planted in the green belts of the main roads including Kashmir Road, Paris Road, Circular Road and Khawaja Muhammad Safdar Road, the district coordination officer claimed on Wednesday.

Besides, he added, re-modelling of Sialkot city’s two busy Chowks namely Aalam Chowk and China Chowk were being renovated. DCO Zahid Saleem Gondal stated this while talking to the media.

He said that the TMA Sialkot had also planned to establish another recreational park on two acres of land along Sialkot-Eimanabad Road and upgrading the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park Sialkot for providing the better recreational facilities to the local people at local level. The DCO added that the provincial government had evolved an effective strategy to ensure early completion of Sialkot’s all the ongoing mega projects including the dualization of 46 kilometres Sialkot-Daska-Gujranwala Road, construction of the Eastern Bypass near Sialkot, construction of building of Govt Khawaja Safdar Medical College Sialkot and the establishment of Women University at Sialkot on the special directives of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.

He said the Punjab CM was taking keen interest in the uplift and beautification of Sialkot city, which would soon be converted into a “City of Flowers” as well. He added that the Punjab government had recently signed an agreement with the Turkish government for launching an advanced and international-standard solid waste management project at Sialkot to ensure cleanliness in export-oriented Sialkot city through recycling the trash and garbage at local level. The project is being run successfully in Turkish city Al-Kesari, he said.

The solid waste would also be used in preparing gas in enough quantity to meet gas-related demands and needs of the people of Sialkot district, the DCO added. He said that the early establishment of Sialkot Development Authority  as announced by the CM, would also be helpful in jazzing up pace of trade, industrial and business-related activities in Sialkot.

To a question, the DCO narrated that special anti-dengue committees have been formulated in all the 129 urban and rural union councils of Sialkot district. He said that these committees have started anti-dengue awareness raising campaign in their respective union councils by holding walks, seminars and corner meetings for educating the people about dengue and its cure and preventive measures in all the four Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils, in this regard

He revealed that the special teams of agriculture and revenue departments were busy assessing the actual losses of crops, lands, houses and cattle etc in the recent flood-hit areas of Bajwat-Sialkot and Pasrur tehsils. He also said that the selection of any suitable land for establishing Journalists’ Colony at Sialkot was under process and this procedure would be completed as soon as possible in active consultation with the management of Sialkot Press Club Sialkot.
