City receives scattered rains


LAHORE – The City received scattered rains on Wednesday, providing much needed respite to the Lahorites from prevailing muggy weather.
Rains, overcast conditions and continuously-blowing winds caused a considerable decrease in the mercury level in the evening. Prior to the rains, the City remained in the grip of muggy weather, causing the Lahorites to sweat until noon.
People come out of their houses in the evening to enjoy the weather after the rainfall. Major parks and picnic spots of the City attracted a large number of people, including women and children, in the evening. Huge rush was witnessed at Bagh-e-Jinnah, Jillani Park, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Jallo Park, Lahore Zoo and other picnic spots in the City. Massive traffic jams were also witnessed on roads in the close vicinity of these picnic spots.
In certain areas, the rains added to the woes and miseries of motorists and pedestrians as the rainwater inundated on portions of roads and roadsides. Frequent traffic jams were witnessed on a number of roads because of inundated rainwater and slippery conditions.
On Wednesday, the maximum and minimum temperature in the City was recorded at 35 and 26 degree Celsius, respectively; while relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 69 per cent. According to experts, a seasonal low lies over northwest Balochistan, and monsoon currents are continuously penetrating Sindh and adjoining areas.
The local meteorological department has forecast partly cloudy weather for the City during the next 24 hours. The Met office has forecast mainly hot and humid weather for most parts of the country. However, isolated rains / thundershowers are likely in Sukkur, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Larkana and Karachi divisions, as well as AJK and adjoining areas.
