‘Tolerance vital for democracy’

LAHORE - Eminent jurist Justice (r) Nasira Javed Iqbal has said that tolerance is vital for promoting democracy in the country.
She was addressing an internship programme at the Aiwan-i-Karkunan-i-Tehreek-i-Pakistan. The sitting was jointly organised by the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust and the Tehreek-i-Pakistan Workers Trust.
“The rule of law and utmost respect for the constitution can guarantee the elimination of all the ills prevailing in our society. Youth, especially girls, must concentrate on their studies and habituate themselves to research work and innovation,” she opined.
She said: “Educating a boy means educating an individual, whereas educating a girl means educating a whole family.”
“Quaid-i-Azam exhorted us to work, work and work. An effective accountability system must be set up and the rights of the minorities must be safeguarded. One of the causes of lawlessness is the disproportionately increasing population which has to be kept under check,” she remarked.
Meanwhile, the students of New Union Girls High School, Shahdara, on Thursday visited the Nazaria Pakistan Trust and attended the Awareness Programme. The students also visited Pakistan Movement Gallery. Moreover, they attended a lecture on two nation’s ideology.
