Altaf flays arrest of activists

KARACHI - MQM chief Altaf Hussain has condemned the arrest of MQM activists during operation of police and Rangers in Karachi. He warned that PPP government in Sindh will be responsible if it does not stop ‘carnage’ against MQM.
Talking to the MQM coordination committee via telephone at Nine-Zero, Azizabad here on Thursday, he said it was surprising that the terrorist involved in the killing of police officers were released. He demanded the Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali for proper investigation as the Sindh government seems very nervous over probing the case.
“Sindh government has started crackdown against the MQM and ANP by arresting their party workers. PPP has adopted the same manner against the MQM in past but those attempts went empty, PPP will soon be shattered,” he added.
In a joint statement issued here on Thursday, they said that although police had arrested a number of workers and sympathizers of the party on Wednesday night, both the police and the administration have been refusing to share any information about the whereabouts of at least three apprehended workers. They said that since three workers of the party Aslam, Younis and Zulfiqar, belonging to Nazimabad, Defence and Mehmoodabad, were picked up by the police on Wednesday night.
