SADIQABAD
PPP Punjab leaders and people of Sadiqabad protested against the poor sanitation condition, accumulation of sewage water and spread of various diseases due to uncleanliness in the tehsil.
The main road area in front of the Tehsil Council Office in New Town has turned into a pond of sewage water mainly because of delay in commencement of construction of the road in spite of heaps of crushed stones have been seen for months on the dilapidated road for construction. Amidst the protest demonstration, Tehsil Municipal Officer Naeemul Hassan along with his team reached the area and assured the protesters of solving the problems immediately.
For the last many a month, the main street situated in middle of the city in front of the office has been giving the look of a pond of dirty water thereby irritating the local residents by creating permanent problems for them in the New Town. Some six months ago, the Tehsil Council had invited tenders for the construction of the road. The contractor unloaded a huge quantity of crushed stones on the road and then disappeared.
Earlier, the residents including Shahid Rasool, Anwar, Ajmal, Umair, Nadeem, Ejaz, Mumtazul Hassan, Abdur Rehman, Nadeem Bari and Siraj Ahmad informed the TMO of the “cruel treatment” being meted out by the TMA staff against the New Town residents. Following the protest, the TMO ordered the officials concerned to carry out cleanliness of the sewage line, cover manholes and start construction work on the road. He also issued a show cause notice to the contractor and directed him to start work. He assured the residents that soon work at the road project would start.
Meanwhile, PPP Punjab leader Tariq Mehmood, former city nazim Salman Mehmood, Khalil, Farhad, Mehmoodul Hassan, Habibur Rehman, Shahiduz Zaman, Sher Ali, Javed and Ali Raza told the media that the accumulated dirty water in a number of bazaars and markets have turned into ponds while in various localities such as Askari Park etc, heaps of filth and trash are being witnessed.
As a result, the people of various part of Sadiqabad are suffering from various diseases which are spreading owing to consumption of sewage-mixed water as sewage gets mixed in drinkable water through the damaged parts of rusted supply lines.
In the this regard, the worse hit are the residents of Mohallah Ghaforabad, Husainabad, Warind Colony, Mazhar Farid Colony Mohallah, Janlandharan and Tibba Zahir Pir in Sadiqabad. The residents are forced to drink sewage-mixed water. In addition, the local people are unable to get medically treated as they lack financial resources and living hand-to-mouth life. They demanded that the administration should improve the sewage system for betterment of the local people.
