ISLAMABAD - PR - The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has categorically denied that no SECP official is under investigation in the OGRA case and that the name of Imtiaz Haider, an SECP Commissioner, is not on the exit control list (ECL).
A news story “Ex-SECP chief placed on ECL flying out” in The Nation (August 29) has falsely stated that the SECP Commissioner Imtiaz Haider is under investigation in the OGRA case and his name had been placed on the ECL. It is pertinent to mention here that the ministry of interior has confirmed that Imtiaz Haider been not been placed on the ECL.
Therefore, the impression that the SECP officials had been putting obstacles in the way to inquiry was totally baseless. It is also clarified that no SECP official has been summoned by the NAB and the SECP officials were only meeting the investigators to furnish prerequisite data and information as when required. The Commission deplores an organized campaign backed by a particular media group to tarnish the image of the regulatory body by publishing fabricated stories.
The SECP has been fully cooperating with the NAB in its investigations into the OGRA case. The SECP is committed to developing a fair, efficient and transparent regulatory framework, based on international legal standards and best practices, for the protection of investors and mitigation of systemic risk aimed at fostering growth of a robust corporate sector and a broad-based capital market in Pakistan.
