RAWALPINDI: US National Security Adviser (NSA) Susan Rice today called on COAS General Raheel Sharif at the General Headquarters, where she “appreciated and acknowledged Pakistan Army’s sincere efforts and sacrifices in the war against terrorism,” tweeted Maj Gen Asim Bajwa - the chief military spokesperson.
According to ISPR, matters of mutual interest including the security situation in the region were discussed. Both leaders also recognised the need for close coordination to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Earlier, U.S. National Security Adviser Susan Rice met PM Nawaz Sharif to press concerns over attacks launched by militants based in Pakistan. US is keen to gain Pakistan's help in resurrecting peace talks between the Afghan Taliban and the government in Kabul.
Rice's visit is part of an Asian tour that included an earlier stop in China, comes amid uncertainty over whether the United States will release $300 million in military aid to Pakistan.
