The MQM and its leadership must accept their mistakes and repent for their past sins. One wonders why it is always alleged that the party tends to challenge the writ of law by imposing no-go areas and taking the law into their hand. Their role in the Musharraf junta and the use of strong-arm tactics is a reality which they cannot hide. The May 12 killings, followed by a number of similar incidents in April of the same year have been shown live by television channels in Pakistan. Even the then Interior Minister of Sindh proclaimed it as a show of force. It is also a fact that their leaders tend to seek political asylum in UK. It is also a fact that MQM has always sought a role in every government willing to welcome them, which includes those of Nawaz Sharif, Benazir and Musharraf and now PPP Co-Chairman Mr Zardari. The prevailing troubles faced by the MQM will not end unless its charismatic leader Altaf Hussain returns to the country. RASHID ORAKZAI, Quetta, December 29.
