Abducted doctor, cop among 6 dead in shootout

WAH CANTT – An abducted doctor, one police officer and four members of an inter-provincial gang of kidnappers were shot dead and another injured in an encounter in a pre-dawn incident here at Taxila on Thursday morning.
Talking to newsmen here, DSP Raja Taifoor Akhtar said that a gang of outlaws involved in abduction for ransom case kidnapped Dr Talal Khan, an owner of private hospital Yahya Welfare Hospital Haripur one month back and demanded a ransom money for Rs 6 million for his release. During negotiations with his family members by the kidnappers, the police traced the location of the abductors at main bazaar Taxila.
A huge contingent of police from Haripur and Taxila alongwith APC, officials of police commandos and elite force launched pre-dawn strike at the rented house of the abductors.
On seeing the police party, the kidnappers killed the abducted doctor and also opened indiscriminate firing at the police raiding party.
As a result, DSP Haripur circle Asif Gohar who was leading the contingent received bullet injury and Sub-Inspector Raja Hasnain of Taxila police also received bullet injuries and died on the way to hospital.
In cross-fire, four members of the gang including two women died. The dead were identified as Ijaz and Babar residents of Haripur.
Later, the body of slain policeman was dispatched to his native town for burial.
