KARACHI - Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain said on Thursday that his party always espoused the truth and supported the oppressed people in the country.

In a telephonic conversation with MNA Hamidullah Jan Afridi from FATA, the MQM chief said, “We are grieved at the injustices inflicted on the people of Tribal Areas.”  The MNA informed Altaf that the people of FATA were already deprived and now efforts were being made to make Tribal Areas a part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He further said that the tribal belt had remained autonomous, and hence its people did not want to be a part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

“They want a separate province to pursue their aspirations.”

Altaf said to the MNA, “We share grief and sorrow of the people of FATA and have full sympathy with them.”

The MQM had opposed drone strikes and got a resolution against them passed from the National Assembly, he said while adding that “we also raised voice at every forum on the issue of drone attacks”.

Afridi told Altaf that the people of FATA were hopeful that the MQM and its chief would raise voice for their rights.

Upon this, the MQM chief said he would ask his party’s Coordination Committee to deliberate over making FATA a new province, and asserted, “If the people of FATA would unanimously demand a separate province, the MQM would endorse their demand.

Altaf also asked the MNA to convey his best wishes to the people of Tribal Areas.

Afridi welcomed the views of the MQM chief, and thanked him on behalf of the people of FATA for his staunch support.
