CHINIOT - The Chaman Welfare Society and Public Welfare Society in collaboration with Insan Dost Trust and the UN Women Initiative organised a seminar on ‘Conflict Management and Violence against Women’ here the other day.

On the occasion, the speakers said that conflicts result in violence against women and weaker segments of society, and it was time to create awareness and train the society to shun violence against the women and children.

Addressing to the seminar, DO Social Welfare Farrukh Rizwan, EDO Education Mehr Ashraf Ali, EDO Health Dr Aslam Randhawa, DO Health Dr Munir Ahmad Malik, District Education Officer, Zafar Abbas Rehan, Dr Javed Iqbal Qamar, Syed Afzal Shah, Dr Muzammil Hussain, Bahsir Ahmad Chaman, Amir and Umar Chaman said that technological developments had snatched social life from the society.

They claimed that district Chiniot was badly hit by sectarianism and honour killings.

“Due to other factors like poverty; frustration and ignorance, violence against the women and sexual harassments incidents are on the rise,” they said.  The speakers emphasized the need for implementation of laws relating to women, empowerment to them through human rights respect and registration of cases against honour killers.

They also called on Ulema to sit together and condemn sectarianism in society.
