KARACHI - Younger son of the slain deputy superintendent of police (DSP) was killed and another son wounded in a targeted attack in Quaidabad area within the limits of Shah Latif police station on Saturday evening.

The deceased was identified as Athar Shah and his injured brother as Mutahir Shah.

According to initial reports, SHO Ali Hassan Sheikh said that deceased and injured were the sons of slain DSP Sadiq Shah who was gunned down in 1994, adding that the victims were going in their car from their home in Sharafi Goth area. An unidentified person opened fire on their car. Athar Shah sustained multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot while his brother was injured.

SHO Sheikh said that the victims also fired at the culprit, resultantly, the attacker who has yet to be identified was also killed. Bodies and injured were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy. SHO Sheikh further said that the victims belong to shia sect and were associated with the property business. Their father was killed on sectarian basis. Apparently, they were also attacked in the same manner. Further investigation was underway.

Earlier, a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead in Orangi Town when he was going somewhere on his motorcycle and two armed men riding a motorcycle shot him dead. The deceased was identified as Kashan Ahmed Siddiqui, 42. Police officials said that deceased might have been killed over ongoing wave of political violence.

Separately, an activist of Sunni Tehreek, Syed Akbar, 28, was shot dead in Babar market area of Landhi police station. Police officials said that deceased was sitting at his flower shop when two armed riders shot him dead over unexplained reasons. His body was taken to JPMC for autopsy.

WOMAN DIES AS HUTS CATCH FIRE: A woman was burnt to death while two others received burn injuries as fire swept through a slum area in Korangi locality of the city on Saturday.

According to rescue sources, the incident took place in slum area located near Mehran Town in Korangi.

The sources said that a woman was burnt to death while two men sustained burn injuries as a blaze gutted at least 10 huts.

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The reason of the incident could now be ascertained.

Sources said that the deceased woman was expecting a baby.

Meanwhile MNA Mehreen Bhutto called on Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf at the Governor House here on Saturday.
