LAHORE – The First Women’s Challenge Cup Hockey Tournament gets underway here at the National Hockey Stadium today (Sunday).

Six leading women teams of the country Wapda, Army, Railways, Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan have already reached the provincial metropolis. The opening match will be played at 12:30 pm between Army and Railways and Punjab will take on Wapda in second match at 2:30 pm.

Wife of the Indian Hockey Federation secretary Mrs Nirendra Batra will be the chief guest and inaugurate the tournament while Mrs Qasim Zia, wife of the PHF president, and Mrs Asif Bajwa, wife of secretary, will also be present on the occasion.

The tournament is being organised by a group of enthusiastic former players spearheaded by Ms Saman Rashid under the patronage of the PHF and will be played on single league basis till January 6.
