LAHORE -  The General Cadre Doctor’s Association has opposed the idea of posting professors as medical superintendents, saying this practice would ruin the administration since teachers neither have required qualification nor experience to manage affairs of teaching hospitals.
Addressing the meeting of GCDA here on Sunday, President of the association Dr Masood Akhtar Sheikh said that the post of MS belonged to those general cadre doctors who have qualification like MPH or equivalent from a recognised institution. Dr Rana Rafique, Dr Muhammad Ashraf, Dr Rana Imtiaz, Dr Asad Abbas Shah, Dr Muhammad Ejaz, Dr Khawja Mahboob and other office bearers of GCDA attended the meeting.
Dr Masood Sheikh said that the teaching cadre was entirely different with a different domain of activities.
“The privileges offered for this cadre is due to its nature of job that included training of under graduate and post graduate doctors, clinical research and round of wards”, he said, adding, it was unfortunate that this practice have not been carried out any more.
“Teachers are not trained for administration, financial and related field that are part of training of administrative doctors. MS is not only responsible for maintaining discipline among doctors, paramedical and nursing staff but is available for 24 hours for any emergency. Ms has sufficient knowledge and experience of dealing with financial matter, has learned epidemiology during post graduate training of MPH”, he said, adding, that those trained for specific job should continue to perform this duty and medical teachers should focus on their own assignments.
