Islamabad- On the directions of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, National Counter Terrorism Authority has established a phone line having number "1717" for terrorism related complaints.

The Interior Ministry has appealed to all citizens to remain vigilant with regards to their surroundings and report on the given extension in case they witness any suspicious person or activity.

The 1717 emergency helpline would be working round the clock and is said to have a state-of-the-art system. The government has been taking various initiatives to curb terrorism in the wake of the brutal attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar. More than 140 people - mostly children - were killed when several militants stormed into the Army Public School on Dec 16. Factions of outlawed Taliban outfits had claimed responsibility for carrying out the attack.
