A dacoit was killed in a shootout with the police here the other night.

According to a press release issued by DPO Rana Ayaz Saleem, the bandits were busy looting passenger buses and other vehicles near Chak 158/10R Kokhaywala Stop. On a tip-off, the Jahanian Police SHO and elite force vehicles moved there. As soon as the police reached there, the dacoits opened firing on the police personnel which the police retaliated. In the crossfire one of the dacoits sustained gunshot wounds while his other accomplices succeeded in fleeing from the scene.

However, the injured bandit succumbed to wounds on the way to DHQ Hospital. Later, the deceased was identified as Muhammad Rashid, son of Allah Dittta Bhatti, a resident of Chak 58/10R Jahanian.

According to the DPO, the deceased dacoit Rashid was the ringleader of a gang involved in several robbery and bike-snatching incidents. The police also traced various FIRs registered against him in Thatta, Sadiqabad and Jahanian police stations. The police have started raids for the arrest of absconding bandits.

Meanwhile, a young man was murdered over a dispute between two rival groups over installation of board at the chowk of a village.

Khalid Raza Kamboh, 35, a resident of Mauza Sahib Lungrah was interested to erect an advertisement board at Gamunwala Pul on Sarai Sidhu Road in tehsil Jahanian, about 5-km from here.

However, his rivals were opposing him and after some arguments, his opponent Sajjad opened fire on him. Resultantly he sustained critical wounds and breathed his last on the way to hospital.

Following the incident, Kabirwala DSP Riaz Shahid and the Sarai Sidhu Police reached on the spot and brought the situation under control.

According to police sources, the police have registered FIR, and started investigation. Meanwhile, DPO Rana Ayaz Saleem refuted reports painting the murder as a sectarian killing, saying that it was a dispute between two people and had nothing to do with sectarianism. The police have registered an FIR and arrested the culprit Sajjad involved.
