LAHORE - A delegation of Kashmiri leaders led by former Chairman Hurriyat Conference Adul Ghani Bhatt Thursday called on PML-N leader Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at his residence in Raiwind. PML-N President and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was present on the occasion. During the meeting, bilateral issues of mutual interest, Pak-India tension and Kashmir issue were discussed. Nawaz Shairf said that new US administration headed by Barak Obama could play an important role in resolving the Kashmir issue. He said "Kashmir is not a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan. It is an international issue and also involves China, USA and other global powers." He said the world community knew that there could be no peace in South Asia without resolving the Kashmir issue. He was of the view that a just solution of Kashmir issue would be more beneficial for India and Pakistan as that of Kashmir. He claimed that it was the right of Kashmiris to rule Kashmir. He further said the just settlement of Kashmir issue would bring progress, prosperity and stability both in Pakistan and India. About Pak-India tension, he said, "We need to give a good turn to Indo-Pak relations with wisdom and must try to defuse the tension between the two." Talking to mediamen after the meeting, Nawaz Sharif said Kashmir issue should be resolved as per the aspirations of Kashmiri people and urge global community should play its due role in this connection. Abdul Ghani Bhatt said that peaceful solution of Kashmir issue would not be possible without addressing the root-causes of the problem. He said Pakistan and India should take up Kashmir issue seriously as it is in their own interest. Responding to a query, he said they had boycotted the elections in Kashmir because they believed that such a practice was useless and could not bring peace in Kashmir.
