4.6MT rice exported to 120 countries

LAHORE The country has exported 4.6 million tons of rice to 120 countries of the world in current fiscal year with limited resources. This was stated by Taufiq Ahmed Khan, Vice Chairman of Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) while briefing the newly-inducted officers of Commerce & Trade Group, who visited Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan head office here on Saturday along with Shafiq Haider Virk, Mohammad Umar Ashraf and Fahad Raza. Taufiq Ahmed Khan, Vice Chairman REAP welcomed the C&T group officers and briefed them about REAP as well as rice industry. He emphasized the need for establishing relationship with government and private sector for promotion of trade. He said the over all industries and particularly rice sector were suffering from severe electricity and gas shortage that is the main hurdle of production. He further said that Government should formulate a policy for rice export, which is the 2nd largest trade body and earning a huge foreign exchange for Pakistan. He said presently we are exporting rice to 120 countries and we have captured various non traditional markets of the world because basmati rice is famous for its aroma and quality allover the world.
