LAHORE Inspector General of Police Punjab Javed Iqbal has awarded punishment of demotion, censure and withholding of promotion to six DSPs on the charges of misconduct, negligence, and misuse of powers. As per details, DSP Tahir Nawaz, ex-SDPO, Saddar Mandi Bahauddin, was held guilty of grave misconduct and corruption, and action was recommended by the Inquiry Officer Muhammad Ayaz Saleem, the then SP (Operations), Model Town. Similarly, DSP Muhammad Sadiq Chandio, ex-SDPOSadar, Sahiwal; DSP Ashfaq Ahmad Burki, ex-SDPO, Jahanian, district Khanewal; and DSP Muhammad Shabbir, ex-SDPO, Piplan, Mianwali were found guilty of misconduct by various inquiry officers, who recommended departmental action against these officers. Moreover, DSP Muhammad Sarwar, ex-SDPO, Samundri, district Faisalabad, and DSP Asad Ullah Khan, ex-SDPO, Taunsa Sharif, district DG Khan were held accused of negligence from duties. The inquiry was conducted by the then Additional SP Madina Division, Faisalabad, Sadiq Ali and DPO Muzaffargarh, Mehboob Rashid, respectively. The inquiry officers held these police officers guilty of misconductand recommended action against them. Therefore, as per prescribed procedure DSPs were issued show-cause notices and they were given full opportunity to defend the charges levelled against them before the IGP, however, they were unable to prove their innocence. Accordingly, upon proving of negligence in performing duties, exceeding their authority, and misconduct, the IGP awarded punishments including the demotion of DSP Tahir Nawaz to the rank of inspector; withholding of promotion of DSP M Sadiq Chandio and DSP Ashfaq Burki; withholding of promotion of DSP Muhammad Shabbir for two years.
