Public protest today

ISLAMABAD - Public representatives will hold a protest rally today (Sunday) in Khanpur to protest against the proposed merger of Khanpur Dam into Islamabad Capital Territory and to press the demand for the formation of Hazara province. The development is crucial in the prevailing scenario amid the covert efforts of bigwigs in the federal government to merge Khanpur Dam into the capital. On Thursday, President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari invited the functionaries of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government and other ANP leaders during the ceremony of officially declaring Kala Dhaka as a district of KP. The move was aimed at diffusing the tension between the centre and KP over Khanpur Dam row and wooing the support of the provincial government in this regard. However, the event has not gone well with the leaders of different political parties who are united at the platform of Hazara movement struggling for the creation of Hazara province. On Friday, the Tehreek-e-Hazara had issued a media statement slamming the Presidency for not inviting them in the aforementioned ceremony. The Thursday's event also proves to be a setback for the efforts of provincial government to garner support of Hazara's influential political leadership over Khanpur Dam issue.
