KARACHI - A mysterious exchange of fire outside the residence of MQM-Haqiqi chief Afaq Ahmed in Landhi area left a party activist wounded on Sunday.

As per details, Afaq Ahmed had called a meeting of his party workers, when unidentified armed men, riding motorbikes, opened fire at a vehicle carrying MQM-H activists. As a result, one Atif sustained gunshot wounds. He was ferried to a nearby hospital.

An MQM-H leader, Shamshad Khan Ghauri, in a press statement, alleged that 40 workers of his party were wounded, when the gunmen from a rival organisation resorted to indiscriminate firing. He also alleged that 20 workers, including Shakeel Hanguroo and Muhammad Ali, from the party’s Lyari sector were abducted.

Police expressed ignorance of the kidnappings and injuries to 40 MQM-H workers, according to sources.

Arbab’s party leaders discuss senate polls: The parliamentary party of PML (Like-Minded) held a meeting here on Sunday with its parliamentary leader in Sindh Assembly MPA Razak Rahmoon in the chair to discuss the upcoming senate elections.

MPA Arbab Zulfiqar Ali, MPA Cheetal Mal Arwani, MPA Nuzhat Pathan, MNA Arbab Zakaullah, MNA Dr Haider Samejo and others attended the meeting and devised a strategy for contesting the senate elections. They expressed confidence in the leadership of party chief former chief minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim.
