Islamabad - The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has issued new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the security of educational institutions in the capital under which they will be granted weapon licences, said the sources yesterday.

The heads of the institutions may apply for the weapon licences to the chief commissioner Islamabad, said the SOP issued by DG FDE Moeen-ud-Din Wani, the sources added. Every institution would be given two-three licences for self-defence and security of the students and teachers. The sources said a circular to this effect has been issued to the heads of all the educational institutions. The institutions’ heads have been asked to raise the boundary walls and also fix barbed wire over it. They have also been directed to make arrangements for installation of security cameras and engage trained guards for security duty. The heads have been asked to designate special exit points in case of emergency. Under the SOP, a special audit of the pick and drop service of the educational institutions would be conducted, the sources added.
