MARDAN: Several poets of Mardan district strongly criticized culture department Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa for allegedly selecting financially strong and government employees’ poets for financial aid and ignored the poor and rightful poets of the district.

Talking to The Nation, Ghamgi Mayari, Shah Hussain Tanha, Sardar Ghamjin and other said that culture department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has started a program to financially support the poor poets of the province which is very good step.

They added that through this program government has decided to give Rs 30,000 financial aid to the poets and also gave 30,000 monthly honorariums to those poets who are affected from terrorism.

They said that cultural department nominated a committee to identify the poets who are right for this program. They added that the committee members nominated such poets who are already government employees and receiving huge salaries in different departments from the government.

They added that the committee also nominated such poets who are financially strong and they have no need of honorarium or financial aid.

They alleged that a leader of PML-N who belongs to Mardan and relative of culture secretary has allegedly gave names of some poets to the culture department. They accused that blue eyed poets were nominated for honorarium and financial aid.

They demanded the PTI Chief Imran Khan and Chief Minister KP Parvez Khattak to conduct inquiry in this connection and ensure it that the poor and rightful poets should be selected for the honorarium and financial aid.
