KASUR-The Punjab Bar Council (PbBC) on Monday ordered re-conduct of elections of Kasur District Bar Association (DBA) within two weeks.

During the two-week period, DBA vice president would occupy the seat of president. It should be kept in mind that Sardar Fakhir Ali had won the seat of president of the DBA by defeating Naseemul Hassan, a candidate supported by the ruling PML-N and the PPP, with the margin of 60 votes in annual bar elections held on Jan 20.

Mr Naseem suspected vote rigging in the election and appealed for recounting of votes. The votes were recounted for at least three times and the final decision was given in favour of Sardar Fakhir. Lawyers of Fakhir group were on the way to the shrine of Bulleh Shah to offer Fateha and to celebrate their victory when they heard the news concerning victory of Naseemul Hassan with the margin of seven votes. It turned the situation tense. The election committee sealed ballot boxes and referred the issue to the PBC which formed a four-member committee to resolve the issue. Both candidates appeared before the committee yesterday and an order concerning re-conduct of DBA elections was issued.

A meeting of Nizampura 16 Union Council (UC) was held under the chair of UC vice chairman Salah Deen Bhatti. All the UC members and Union Council chairman Mehr Latif attended the meeting. The participants reviewed the problems being faced by the UC residents. They also agreed to inform the District Council chairman about rising number of stray dogs in the area. They also vowed not to compromise the quality in development projects being carried out in the area.
