KARACHI - City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has taken strict notice of the wrongdoings and malpractices at in the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), during his surprise visit of the hospital on second consecutive day on Tuesday, and decided to set up his own office at the facility with a view to improve its administrative affairs, management monitoring and performance of the doctors and paramedics.   The City Nazim suspended a lab technician on charges running personal laboratory just outside the hospital. A CDGK spokesman said that lab technician Javed Majeed misguided the poor patients that test facility was not available in the Pathological department of the Hospital. The accused used to send the poor patients to his own private laboratory, Karachi National Lab, established just outside the ASH to mint money in collaboration of various doctors and paramedics. Mustaf Kamal visited various wards and met with the patients and inquired them about the availability of medicines and laboratory tests. The patients informed him that they were directed by the hospital staffers to get medical tests from a laboratory established outside the hospital. The city nazim took serious notice of these complaints and ordered the dismissal of lab technician Javeed Majeed. He further directed the medical committee to probe into the corruption of doctors who prescribed the laboratory test outside the ASH. He expressed utter annoyance that despite the establishment of a new laboratory at the ASH at a cost of worth Rs 40.5 million, patients were forced to get test from private lab. Mustafa Kamal warned the doctors and paramedics of strict action in case they force the poor patients to get tests from private labs. He directed the MS to prepare the list of those doctors and paramedics involved in malpractices and order their dismissal if found guilty. Informed sources said that Mustafa Kamal had been receiving complaints during the last several months that patients were suffering at the ABH and doctors and paramedics were treating them properly.   It also may be noted that all important and needy medicines and injection were provided to the hospital management but were not provided to the patients and they were compelled to purchase the medicines from private medical stores outside the hospital.    A panic was witnessed at the ASH during the past two days due to surprise visits of the city nazim as hospital officials were expecting massive reshuffle in the administration.
