KARACHI - Coalition partners, PPP and ANP, which played frontline role on May 12, 2007 to welcome the deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry have disassociated themselves to give rousing welcome to the CJP here on Tuesday. These parties were following the paths of their coalition partner in the Sindh government, MQM, which from the very first day disassociated itself from the movement of restoration of judiciary. It may be noted here that in May 2007, PPP and ANP workers along with their central leaders were more enthusiastic and despite blockade by the PML-Q-led government in the metropolis to welcome the rallies of deposed CJ. PPP, ANP and other party activists and lawyers reached at the Karachi airport to receive the CJP. PPP Acting Information Secretary Waqar Mehdi told The Nation that it's our party policy that none of our political workers and central leaders were participated in recent rallies held in honour of deposed chief justice in Lahore, Multan and Peshawar. "Our workers always followed the party line and we have decided to not participate in rallies held in honour of deposed chief justice. The Sindh government has provided all the facilities which were demanded by the lawyers' representatives including providing foolproof security arrangements to the CJP," he added. Mehdi said that media witnessed that on May 12, 2007 PPP and ANP were assembled in large numbers than by the JI, PML-N and APDM parties. Awami National Party (ANP) Sindh Secretary General, Ameen Khattak said that ANP workers were not participated in welcoming ceremony due to Sindh High Court Bar Association's president Rashid Rizvi and other lawyers' representatives attitude who had not invited ANP in the meeting which arranged reception in honour of the deposed CJ. Khattak said that they had only invited APDM parties and PML-N in the meeting not us. He ruled out the impression that ANP was a coalition partner of PPP therefore it did not participated in the meeting. "We were ready to welcome the CJP but we were deliberately not invited by the lawyers representatives." However, it was witnessed that the political parties, lawyers fraternity and civil society representatives were failed to bring out the people to welcome the Iftikhar Chaudhry, who has arrived here after a one year period. But despite of all the tall claims of political and lawyers leadership they have not given warm reception to the chief justice as the government and all the political forces has not created any hurdle in the reception of the deposed CJP. Political observers and eye witnesses opined that APDM parties which gathered a good number of people in other provinces for the reception of deposed CJP have completely failed to gather large number of the their political workers to give historical reception to the CJP.
