Prime Minister Gillani has been rebuffed by PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif on the matter of rejoining the cabinet. Mr Sharif has made it clear that till the issue of restoration of the judges is not solved, there is no possibility of his party rejoining the cabinet. This puts PPP in a quandary because if this issue is not resolved any time soon, there is a possibility of withdrawal of support at the centre. This would then leave PPP with the option of forming an alliance with the PML-Q. If this happens, PPP will be left with very little credibility in the masses. The masses are already disillusioned with the way government has handled problems relating to the economy, law and order and a plethora of other problems troubling them. The strained relations with the PML-N are an added burden. Something must be done quickly to salvage the already weakening position of the PPP. -JANDAD KHAN, Lahore Cantt., via e-mail, July 14.
