LAHORE - Chief Justice of Lahore High Court Khawaja Muhammad Sharif on Wednesday took suo moto notice of a clash between the students of Islamia College Civil Lines, Lahore, and police over the issue of walk-chalking. The chief justice directed the SSP (operation), SP City and SHO police station Islampura, Lahore, to appear with record today (Thursday). He also directed the Punjab advocate general to ensure compliance of the order and appear to assist in the matter. The chief justice remarked, reportedly, the police gave merciless beating to the students, also nabbed 35 of them from the hostel and later registered cases of serious nature against them. It is reported that on hearing the news, students in other parts of the City also held demonstrations against police. This news has invited attention of the public at large and especially the media. Such incidents have attained alarming proportions; therefore, I would like to know the actual facts of the case, the chief justice remarked.
